SportWorks TALKS: “Care to Dare: Why sport leaders must focus on people”

27/01/2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm CET

From its origin to the 21st century, sports shifted from a grassroots activity, embedded in the day-to-day culture, to become a global and highly profitable industry. That gave birth to the institutionalisation of sports, with benefits such as optimizing efficiency on a large scale. However, it also created a challenge: the sports community started to behave as a mechanical engine, instead of a living system. And in mechanical systems, business prevails over people, and results are more important than processes. But what happens if sports leaders decide to care for people, like they really matter, and dare them to achieve their best?

This is the guiding question of our first SportWorks TALK of 2022, with Susan Goldsworthy OLY. She is an Olympic finalist, European & Commonwealth Games medalist, who has more than 20 years of corporate experience in large multinationals. She is also the co-author of three award-winning books about leadership, and on the faculty at IMD where she is associate director of CLEAR (Cultivating Leadership Energy through Awareness and Reflection), IMD’s senior leadership program. With that impressive and holistic trajectory, she will argue through experience and scientific expertise, how sports leaders and organizations can play to thrive, one person at a time.
