SportWorks TALK: High performance: from Rugby to the Corporate World

When we talk about high-performance athletes, we visualize a person who goes out to train in rain or snow. A person who has spent years of her life dedicated to bringing their body and mind to their maximum potential. Who has learned to control emotions to face fear, overcome losses, and get up after a fall to keep fighting.

So, isn’t an athlete the ideal person for a business team?

Especially in rugby, a player learns to stand up after every tackle, keep on pulling together for the team, and push in the same direction for a common goal. Rugby teaches you values that are transversal to your personal and professional life.

Then, how are these team players applying this expertise to the company?

Irene Schiavón, Mining and Energy Engineering, will tell us about her career transition experience from an international rugby player to social and environmental innovation projects in a multinational company in Spain.

She represented Spain in European and World Rugby Championships for seven years and even attended Olympic Games Rio 2016 as a reserve player for 7’s rugby.

Now she is leading projects in sustainability management strategy and the 2030 Agenda.
