SportWorks TOGETHER: Gender Equality

Society has changed a lot since that 19 of April in 1967 when Kathrine Switzer made history by circumventing the ban that prevented women from competing in a marathon. But, has changed enough?

Women’s participation rates in sport continue to rise, as does their presence in the sports industry. But what about decision-making positions, departments, or disciplines traditionally associated with men?

You don’t have to dig very deep to find alarming statistics. 

For instance, “across the international sport organizations, there is just 7% female representation within the highest governance positions and 21% female representation within the highest leadership positions. (1) 

The gender equality gap is clear – but what are International Federations doing to change that? 

In the upcoming SportWorks TOGETHER – Gender Equality, speakers from different International Sports Federations will discuss the initiatives that they are implementing to address this gap. Among the guest speakes, we will have the pleasure to welcome as guest speakers Marijke Fleuren – EB Member of FIH, Elisabeth Cebrian Scheurer – Head of Women in Basketball FIBA, Alise Kessler – Head of Volleyball Events FIVB and Sandra Lengwiler, Gender Equality Manager at the International Olympic Committee – IOC

After the speakers’ presentations, participants will discuss collectively the topic, in dedicated rounds of conversations. The event will be online and mediated by Michelle Guiliano, Co-Founder of Salt Consulting, former elite rowing athlete and coach, and co-founder of Women Rock Switzerland.
